A vertical structure inspired by historical palaces demands a deep integration of strong engineering and fine craftsmanship. For Laxmi Raaj Vilas, Bobby Mukherrji Architects approached the construction with a focus on structural longevity and safety. The challenge lay in supporting the intricate weight of traditional motifs while ensuring the tower met the rigorous safety standards of a modern metropolis.
Building a tall residence in Mumbai requires a foundation and frame capable of withstanding significant environmental pressures. The tower utilizes a robust Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) structure, meticulously designed to comply with the city’s strict seismic codes. This architecture provides a stable canvas for the palatial elements, ensuring that the heritage character is supported by modern structural confidence. By prioritizing safety and stability, the team ensured the building provides a secure environment, a hallmark of a top architecture studio dedicated to long-term quality.
To achieve the intricate textures of Rajasthani jharokhas and brackets without overburdening the structure, we utilized Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC). This material allows for high-precision molding, capturing the fine details of traditional stonework while offering the durability needed for a high-rise. This level of sophisticated design ensures that the decorative elements remain resilient against Mumbai’s monsoon winds and coastal air. It is this focus on architecture, where the exterior skin is as thoughtfully planned as the internal space, that distinguishes the tower from standard residential developments.
Beyond the façade, the engineering supports a sense of internal grandeur. We designed the residences with generous ceiling heights that significantly lift the feeling of space and luxury. This vertical volume is a key component of high end architecture, providing the breathability which is typically found in sprawling royal estates. By engineering the structure to allow for these expansive interiors, Bobby Mukherrji Architects successfully translated the luxury of a palace into a vertical format, reflecting the standards of an international architecture practice.
The integration of heritage detailing into a high-rise framework is a testament to the firm’s standing as an international design studio. Every bracket, molding, and chhatri was placed with a clear understanding of how it would interact with the building’s overall load and wind resistance. This commitment to modern design means that tradition is never just a veneer; it is an engineered part of the building’s identity. The project demonstrates how a Mumbai-based architecture studio can lead the industry by delivering structures that are as technically sound as they are culturally significant.
Laxmi Raaj Vilas stands as a landmark where engineering serves as the silent partner to beauty. The final structure proves that luxury residential architecture can be both a tribute to the past and a beacon of modern safety. Through the use of advanced materials and rigorous planning, we have created a vertical palace that will endure for generations. It is this balance of strength and soul that defines the studio’s contribution to interior design and urban development, setting a new benchmark for premium living in India.
