The Caribbean island nation of St. Kitts and Nevis serves as an international destination for the world's uber-affluent. Bobby Mukherrji Architects was commissioned to deliver a unique 50,000 sq. ft. boutique airport terminal characterized by exclusivity and high luxury, specifically designed for this demographic. Located on a 5-acre land parcel adjacent to the Basseterre International Airport, the terminal’s structure is carefully planned as a Hurricane Grade 5 facility, providing resilience against the region's cyclonic weather.
Construction utilizes a concrete core topped with a solid-wood roof fabricated in Miami and equipped with shatter-proof windows. Stylistically, the terminal acts as an elegant gateway to this affluent destination. The design deliberately eschews typical airport aesthetics, adopting a resort-style approach with a sprawling, single-storey plan. The facility is dotted with courtyards, waterbodies, and landscaped areas. The ambiance establishes an indulgent yet sophisticated island style, featuring tropical materials and bespoke details, including light fixtures sourced from Thailand.
The terminal lounge functions as an upscale living room, offering guests remote immigration procedures and sampling gourmet culinary delights. Airstrip-facing sun-loungers provide direct views until boarding their jets. Specialized meeting rooms cater to high-net-worth individuals, while dedicated lounges and showering facilities ensure comfort for the pilots. This project's long-term success and enduring design appeal are validated by its inclusion on Robb Report USA’s list of top private jet terminals.
