Location and scenic context were the primary drivers guiding the design narrative of this Bhutan hotel. Its setting along the banks of the Paro River, surrounded by gently undulating hills and close to the nation's international airport, offers both remarkable accessibility and picturesque views. The hotel's interiors are deeply infused with local character. The simple lines and raw materiality mirror the region's vernacular style architecture and the back-to-basics lifestyle of its people. Bobby Mukherrji Architects fleshed out the clean, straight-lined compositions using rustic materials such as slate, granite, and wood for flooring.
Artworks like the Dharmachakra motif on rough-hewn walls, alongside waffle wood ceilings, firmly root the narrative within the cultural context. The breathtaking surroundings are celebrated by orienting prime functionalities, including the all-day dining area and the heated indoor swimming pool, close to the river. Expansive glazed walls intentionally blend the line between the inside and the outside spaces. While much of the artisanal expertise was sourced from India, the lighting fixtures, crafted from thin veneers of pear wood imported from Thailand, provide a warm glow that brings an old-world charm to the riverfront resort interiors.
