Mementos by ITC Hotels Ekaaya, Udaipur

Udaipur, India

This newly-unveiled brand by ITC occupies a super-luxury position and promises to provide a wonderfully unforgettable experience to the guest. The sprawling 60 acres of land nestling amongst the Aravallis and set nearer to Nathdwara’s Shrinathji Temple rather than the touristic spots by Udaipur’s lakes sets the stage to this premium getaway. Given the luxury of space, the built-density is low and orchestrates the 117 villas in a wonderfully secluded manner, each with its slice of velvety lawns and lush tropical trees.

The architectural formalisation follows a tropical path, embedded with modernised versions of vernacular elements and with materiality plucked from a contemporary Asian aesthetic. Most of the materials have been sourced locally, the only exception being the imported marble used in the all-day dining and some public spaces. The guest rooms have an interesting pyramidal roof and expansive granite-glad bathrooms. A large metallic spherical light fixture with perforated patterns suspended for the pitched roof casts a beautiful shadow play when lit, creating a heady, romantic atmosphere. Given that the property looks seriously at destination weddings as a business vertical, the ballroom room assumes great importance.

The large space features an arched wooden ceiling bedecked with frosted, hand-blown chandeliers featuring elements reminiscent of maces. Peacock-inspired motifs abound, as is evident in the striking carpet that sets the stage for high-end events. The spacious pre-function area opens into a large lawn, while the post-function enjoys a permanent fixed set-up, much like an all-day dining, with several interactive counters that present freshly made culinary delights from a variety of cultures. Featuring intricate flooring, high ceilings with arched patterns and an outdoor deck, the large all-day multi-cuisine dining presents a delectable canvas for ITC’s fame in the culinary arts.

The Udaipur property has proved incredibly successful for the hotel chain, commanding a premium for the superlative experience, as well as, almost overnight, topped the list of preferred venues for destination weddings.
