Located within the Somaiya Vidyavihar campus in Mumbai, the Sanskrit Vidyapeeth by Bobby Mukherrji Architects was commissioned by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, as a national center for Sanskrit education. Spanning 1,20,000 sq ft, the institute accommodates programs ranging from foundational studies to postgraduate courses, serving as a complete academic environment dedicated to the preservation and advancement of Sanskrit scholarship.
The architecture draws from Vedic and Santhaghar traditions, expressed through balanced proportions, shaded courtyards, and naturally ventilated corridors that encourage learning in calm surroundings. Crafted with a focus on durability and cultural expression, the design integrates ancient Indian spatial principles with modern educational infrastructure. Completed in 2006, the Sanskrit Vidyapeeth stands as a benchmark in institutional architecture, embodying the harmony between heritage and contemporary academic needs in Mumbai.
