Bobby Mukherji Architects was commissioned by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, to design the 12th Sanskrit Vidyapeeth in India, located within the Somaiya Vidyavihar campus in Mumbai. The project, initiated in 2006 under the leadership of HR Minister Murli Manohar Joshi, was envisioned as a center for ancient learning and Sanskrit education. Spanning an area of 1,20,000 sq. ft., the institute was designed to offer courses ranging from foundational education to master’s programs in Sanskrit.
The architectural design draws inspiration from ancient Vedic principles, particularly the Santhaghar style, which reflects a traditional and scholarly environment. The Vidyapeeth was developed to serve as a modern-day hub for the study of Sanskrit, blending ancient architectural aesthetics with contemporary educational facilities, to promote the rich heritage of Vedic learning.
