In the heart of Nepal’s capital, a new kind of energy is taking shape. Rising above the Chhaya Center complex, the design of Aloft Kathmandu Thamel represents a sophisticated shift in urban hospitality, moving away from traditional ground-level lobbies to a more dynamic elevated arrival. Bobby Mukherrji Architects, recognised as a top design studio in India, has crafted a layout that uses verticality to create a sense of discovery and a confident identity for the modern traveller.
The journey begins with a purposeful transition. Guests enter through a compact, streamlined ground-floor lobby before ascending to the fifth level. Here, the environment opens up into a brighter, more expressive world. This intentional shift in scale and light creates a clear psychological break from the busy streets below, grounding the guest in a space defined by luxury interior design and contemporary warmth.
Once on the fifth floor, the main lobby serves as a vast social ecosystem that accommodates a variety of daily experiences. The design allows for an easy, natural movement across different zones:
The vertical narrative reaches its peak at the rooftop, which functions as the hotel’s most expressive social hub. Featuring a heated pool and lounge bar framed by 360-degree views of Kathmandu and the distant Himalayan range, this level is a masterclass in flexible urban planning. It supports everything from quiet daytime relaxation to vibrant evening gatherings, reflecting the strategic foresight of an award winning design firm.
Known as a top design studio, we have carefully shaped the way guests move through the building, creating an experience that feels fluid, social, and deeply connected to its surroundings.
